is this one of those games that can be played 12 hours a day and not get old?

As long as you can accept losing, you can sit and play this game for endless hours.

That depends, do you like getting metaphorically hit in the face over and over which you could dodge if you were doing better?
If yes, you will play the s*** out of the multiplayer, if not you will probably just play the single player and the custom games.

I played this game for about a year after release without it getting too old, and since then I've been playing off and on.
Between the great custom games and traditional starcraft matches, there is a lot of replay value to multiplayer. Then there is a good amount of single player content if thats your sort of thing.
The story line of the campaign is pretty generic and multiplayer has a huge learning curve (especially if you have little or no experience with RTS games), but all things considered.. Its definitely worth what you'll pay for it and there are only a handful of games I can say that for.
