|Should be a big 6 days for the reboot. With a high CinemaScore this should have legs with strong word of mouth. Certainly above expectations..|
|So from what I understand (ASM related) (6) | Posted on July 3, 2012, 4:06 p.m.|
|Honestly it is THE spidey movie we should have had a long time ago. Far better than 1&3 and I think it is better than 2just because 2 had that terrible story arc where Peter loses his powers because he stops believing he is Spiderman... that was stupid.|
But yes ASM is the new gold standard for Spiderman films going forward.

|It's looking like this year will be the best year for comic book movies... (5) | Posted on July 3, 2012, 10:47 a.m.|
This year is great for comic book movies but 2014 looks insane:
I would argue that Avengers, ASM, and TDKR is a much bigger year than those movies. Avengers is bigger all of those alone outside of ASM2 and First Class 2 and TDKR is really a finale that only the Avengers will compare to in terms of size and reach.
This summer is absolutely the most dominant for superhero films. 2008 was great with Iron Man and TDK and Hulk....
but when you reboot one of the most popular characters of all time and make it more appealing than the previous trilogy (ASM), cap off the greatest superhero trilogy of all time (TDKR) and then have a culmination of lead in films (Avengers), you really cannot top that in one year.
|Well I hated Spiderman *spoilers* (44) | Posted on July 3, 2012, 10:36 a.m.|
|Dude...if you walk out on a movie like ASM...I am sorry but that is just dumb. I mean really dumb. Movies you walk out on are unbearable. Catwoman is an example. They are movies that cannot even break 10% aggregate review scores. For you to walk out on a movie of quality like the ASM, it speaks volumes about you as a person and the people you surround yourself with. |
It has nothing to do with gamefaqs, nothing to do with generalities or stereotypes...it is just you. If you were talking about a terrible movie, then you would be validated. But you are not.

Great start for the film that many thought would be a harder sell. Remember, this is Marvel's most popular character and should result in a huge amount of merchandise sales and box office revenue even though it is only 10 years removed from its first big screen debut.
Sony is looking for anywhere from 110-120m in the 6 day holiday start. With more than 2 weeks until TDKR there should be plenty of time for ASM to gain a sizeable cume.

|This summer is a triumph for comic book movies... (4) | Posted on July 3, 2012, 9:27 a.m.|
This summer reminds me of four years ago. Iron Man came out, and did very well, followed by The Dark Knight, which of course, also did very well.
Personally, I forgot about Green Lantern as soon as I left the theater. Ghost Rider on the other hand... that is legendary Nic Cage stuff so I doubt I will ever truly forget it.
Regardless of that, this will probably be the biggest superhero summer for the next decade.

3) The alarm clock smash. Whole theater was laughing hysterically.
4) Peter attempting to ask Gwen out after Uncle Ben says he had her on his computer. Perfectly awkward.
5) Peter using the chains while skateboarding to learn how to swing. I thought I would hate the inclusion of the skateboard, but it was actually well done.

|Avengers was incredible. Best comic book movie I have ever seen. I had doubts going in as to whether or not it would pull off all the characters well and it did. With flying colors.|
ASM I had huge doubts about to the point where I almost didn't see it. Well it holds true to its name and it actually pretty amazing. This movie had the best relationship setup I have ever seen in a superhero movie and it was the most fun I have ever had with an origin story outside of Iron Man and Batman Begins. Really, really good.
And then there is the Bat. TDKR is almost a lock to be a grand finale to a summer that has been a very good surprise so far for comic fans. Unless this movie is a mess critically, I do not see how this wraps up the greatest comic book trilogy of all time.
|Is ASM worth seeing in Imax? (2) | Posted on July 3, 2012, 9 a.m.|
|From what I saw yes. The large format allows for the ending action sequence to really shine. Aside from that, the 3D is subtle and thoughtfully used.|
|Holy ****! ASM was good.. (1) | Posted on July 3, 2012, 8:57 a.m.|
|I must say, I liked the first 2 Raimi films a good deal and when I heard about a reboot I almost wrote it off. |
All I have to say is, I am glad my friends got me to go to the midnight IMAX showing because that movie was pretty damn good. Gwen and Peter in particular was unlike any relationship I have ever seen in a comic book movie. Absolutely brilliant performances. The smallest things like *SPOILERS*****
-Flash wearing a spiderman tshirt, developing web shooters, using the chains in the old industrial building to learn to swing, etc.
Were all such great nuances that really made me as a spidey fan happy. Even the way he moved around in this one was just so much truer to a spider and his movement in the comics.
If this wasn't another retelling of the origin story, I think we are looking at Iron Man 1 level of quality. This is right there with batman begins and IM1. The 3rd act was a little rushed but really what origin film doesnt have this (Iron Monger, Destroyer in Thor, etc.)
|Andrew Garfield Delivered! (2) | Posted on July 3, 2012, 8:49 a.m.|

WOW! You really, as a "movie critic", believe that Spiderman 3 was not an atrocity to the trilogy? An atrocity to the lore and characters the comics and even first 2 movies laid out?
I guess the convoluted plot lines and terrible introduction and exiting of characters coughGwencough, was not that bad. I guess Harry was not completely made out to be a joke of a goblin and character in general. I guess Eddie Brock was not introduced as Topher Grace as a competing photographer and then fell into the venom symbiote because it landed by Peter and Mary Jane in the woods. I guess Sandman killed Uncle Ben. I also guess that you have no idea what you are talking about since you gave Piranha 3DD (one of the worst movies of the year) a 3/5 and ASM a 2.5/5.
The fact you are even allowed to count towards an aggregate on RottenTomatoes is disgusting. The fact that you do not understand the reasons that necessitate a complete retelling of Spiderman, Peter, and more specifically Gwen, is disgusting.
And you have the audacity to come in here and say it is blind fanboyism that makes Spiderman 3 so bad... how ironic. The only blindman here is you and the handful of other randomers on RT that gave it a negative review simply because it is another origin story. Like other posters and commentators have said, you have nothing to judge the merits of the movie on. Your review does not give an impression. No one knows if it is a good movie on its own because your review could have been written by a baboon.
Why is it that top critics who have been examining characters and relationships in film long before you were born state that the movie spends a sizable amount of time on Peter and his relationships?

|The key to adapting anything in film is using quality source material. If the source material is rough, it is hard to get diamonds... So with that said,|
Infamous is the only one that would qualify. Only one with characters worth giving a damn about. Only one with effects and story that would not be absurd and campy and relegated to some niche audience.

|My review of The Amazing Spider-Man (22) | Posted on June 28, 2012, 9:59 a.m.|
I'm just going to state how comical it is to me that people have been bashing this Spider-man movie ever since the idea was conceived, and now that it's a week away and this summer has been bland so far people are coming out of the woodwork to defend it. Despite having not seen it.
There are a million ways to spin and "articulate" thoughtless, easy criticisms... That is what this review is. Thoughtless. I never wanted Raimi to do another Spiderman and was a supporter of getting back to its origins and telling a more compelling story of Peter, his friends and enemies. When Marc Webb signed on, I was sold because his characters in 500 Days of Summer were great. And all of the reviews so far have praised the movie outside of the handful reviews that have ALL said, "been there, done that"..
That is an easy, thoughtless way to criticize something. Like I said, this guy is a hack reviewer to begin with. When I first saw his review of Piranha 3DD, I almost started laughing.
Piranha 3DD 3/5 stars
ASM 2.5/5 stars

|This is the trash review I just read on rottentomatoes... how funny that I should find the writer here on GFAQs.|
Your review is terrible. Just like every other thoughtless negative review so far, it focuses entirely on the retreading of the origin tale. As if Raimi was the creator of Spiderman and we had no need or purpose of retelling Peter Parker and his supporting cast after that destruction that was Spiderman 3...
If you do not spend a significant amount of time re-developing character arcs (specifically Gwen Stacey) and to an extent Peter himself, you are left with a reminder of what Spiderman 3 showed us 5 years ago with Bryce Dallas Howard and that joke of a plot. It is not trite to spend a hour defining the new Peter Parker for children and fans, it is actually needed. It is needed because you have to establish the setting, the premise for what these next movies will deliver. If it was done in some 20 minute segment it would ultimately feel like a spin off of the original Raimi trilogy and not its own incarnation.
Restarting and spending compelling time with Gwen and Peter and his family is something I, nor should anyone else, mind doing when the dialogue and acting are as good as the reviews indicate.

I don't think the Jesus theory is something that Scott intends on using, at least not as blatantly as some are theorizing. From the interviews, it sounds like Lindelof was the one pushing the idea, but Scott couldn't get on board with it and ultimately scrapped it. I think Scott would rather use the dawn of the Roman Empire as a sign to the engineers that we had gotten out of control. It occurs at about the same time frame as Jesus, and it was Roman soldiers that crucified Jesus, after all. If they were to focus on the Roman civilization and only hint at the death of Jesus, that would be satisfying. But a proto-human emissary Jesus would be too much of a stretch, piss off too many people, and as Scott stated, it would be "a little too on the nose".
With Scott's history of that time era it would not surprise me if the roman empire is our downfall to the engineers.

It is not a cop out... Ridley Scott has said that future films will continue the story, the questions and the answers. If the Prometheus movies all wrap up with the same amount of questions left, then yes call it a cop out, but Ridley Scott won't do that.
This first movie is to get the mind working and immersed in this universe. I am not saying that future sequels will give all answers...Scott already said he is a big fan of how 2001 Space Od left you with some ambiguity, but many of the questions people have now will be discussed later.

If Jesus is in fact an agent of the Engineers and that's why they're mad at us, Ridley Scott has gone completely insane. I think that's the most ridiculous premise for a plot, especially considering this entire series started with something as simple as an extraterrestrial lifeform killing the crew of a spaceship.
agreed. And I do not think Scott wants that to be the case for this universe which is why they stayed away from that.
