I get the logic, but that isn't and never was the point.
If you are going to redefine such criteria, these different criteria must be agreed upon before the bet starts.
When you say "I bet you Bradley wins the fight" or "I bet you Manny wins the fights" you are well aware that boxing fights not ending in Knockout are decided by three judges. Those are the rules of boxing. Its that simple. If your going to judge the fight yourselves, and come up with your own winner and loser, fine, but thats a different bet from saying "I bet you Bradley wins the fight."
You may disagree with the decision they come up with, but if this is your excuse then Manny could win this fight 11-1 as Lederman scored it, and you could claim "Well I disagree" and not pay, and that is quite simply absurd.

Its really that simple.
Everybody has a different definition of marriage. I have no right to impose my definition of marriage on you, and you have no right to impose your definition of marriage on me. Marriage is between you, your partner, and whatever irrational version of god you believe in. So yeah, bigots. But the rights of a bigot are not any less important than the rights of anybody else.
Gay people are absolutely entitled to equal protection under the law. They should be afforded all of the same rights that a hetero couple recieves under the law. In a society that makes a distinction between church and state, that protection, for either homo or hetero couples, should not include "marriage". If you want to get married, go to church and have yourself a blast, I couldn't care less. From a legal perspective, it should be called a civil union, so that the rights of both gays and bigots are protected under the law.

Civil unions should be given all of the benefits currently afforded to marriages under the law, because the word marriage should be struck from any and all laws in the United States, and replaced with the phrase "civil union".

mystic belmont posted...Joe605 posted...Miasthmatic posted...Then how come straight atheists can get married but gay Christians can't?
I am a huge supporter of equal rights for gay people, and not a huge supporter of marriage, because I find the concept of religion to be absolutely ridiculous in every sense of the word. I don't see any reason why two men or two women shouldn't be able to enjoy the same benefits and privileges of union that a heterosexual couple does, at all, but if you want to get married, go find yourself a church.
I don't see any reason why calling it a "civil union" and not a "marriage" should have any effect on those 1400+ legal benefits either, thats probably the most absurd claim ignorant conservatives make when somebody proposes this solution.
Jimbob down in Alabama is going to have a different definition of marriage than you, who is going to have a different definition than somebody else, and so on and so forth.

I will freely admit for this discussion that I use marijuana almost daily, and my desire to smoke marijuana recreationally is not in any way why I think it should be made legal. I find tobacco to be absolutely disgusting, I don't see any reason why that should be illegal.
Keep it illegal, its not like it is going to prevent myself or anybody else who enjoys the benefits it provides from using it.
I am not an advocate for legalization because I want to get high, I can do that anyway and just as easily, but rather I advocate for legalization because I refuse to back a policy that wastes millions of dollars every year at all levels of government in an attempt to eradicate something that grows naturally.
For those of you who think industrial hemp is nonsense, and BS, and the cannabis plant can't possibly have any purpose outside of getting high, please explain why the United States Government issued 400,000 pounds of hemp seed to farmers in order to help with the war effort.
