That's what they were taught. Of course the first thought is to knock a person on their ass if they do some foul **** like that; but people want to be perceived as the "good guy". You know? "What would everyone think of me if I hit her?" Cats need to ****ing sack up. You don't have to go "Chris Brown" on anybody, but if you're saying there aren't situations where it's right to lay some one out....I feel sorry for you.

|Does Hip-Hop belong to black Americans more than others? (82) | Posted on June 18, 2012, 4:18 p.m.|
|From: hitokoriX | #064|
lol only black culture gets these kinds of debates.
Your comparison is a bit off. Being Irish is a nationality, Black (or if you wanna call it African American) is a race.
Nobody's fooling themselves and saying that Hip Hop didn't originate in the black/latino communities. The key word is belong.
So are you saying that everything black people made belongs to them, and everything white people made belongs to them? I guess electricity belongs to white people then. Don't get too comfortable with that algebra, that belongs to muslims, that's our culture. See how stupid that sounds?
When you use the word belong, it makes it seem like those of us who love hip hop (and aren't black) are less than a black person in terms of hip hop. I also refuse to believe that something belongs to someone else and not me just because their skin tone is 2 shades darker than me. If your great grandad was a pioneer, then hip hop belongs to you, you have a claim to it. I'd say hip hop belongs to the people who love it.
You're really having a hard time grasping the difference between respecting a cultural creation and what exclusionism really is. Seriously, take a deep breath and read through everything again; you're coming off as an ass.

|From: Dathrowed1 | #030|
The Game's whole style is clearly New York based, you know when you first heard him New York was the first place you thought he was from. Come to think of it, his skills greatly improved when started to work with 50 cent.
You'd have to ignore a lot to think Game was from NY, considering he references it in damn near every song.
|The word "classic" gets thrown around a lot. You consider Documentary a classic? (27) | Posted on May 25, 2012, 1:19 p.m.|
west coast classic, borderline general classic. not neccessarly for the music, but for the impact. west coast was out of mainstream music and game brought it back
I've always had a problem with this.
Don't get me wrong, it's a great album, but it didn't bring "westcoast music back". It made LA gang culture cool again. Saying the former implies that more than just Game were successful.

Honestly, I don't know why we're even having this conversation. You might find something 90s influenced, but as far as strictly sticking to that sound...I doubt it'll happen unless it's a remake. I mean, it's been 12 years..
Also, he's not far off base. Unless you're one of those dudes who think there was only one sound per region,
Schoolboy Q & Kendrick Lamar sound like late 90s westcoast rap. It wasn't all g-funk out here.
Big K.R.I.T. is as similar to 90s Outkast as you can get
Asher Roth sounds like Em in '99
If you just want to ***** about something just be honest. Otherwise, take your L and move on.

|That isn't a fair comparison though. |
There's too much money floating around the genre now. As an artist it's a lot harder to justify taking a chance with your music in hopes of it actually being played on the radio. You probably aren't going to see another Wu or Fugees by just listening to radio alone.
I honestly find y'all who complain about the state of music today lazy as ****. You're given all the tools you need to avoid radio. They're popular, cheap, and easy as to use; it just seems like you don't utilize any of them.

Which is hilarious because back when it was founded this board pretty much had an appreciation for everything but the real mainstream ****; which is kind of a stretch because we had a good amount of Lil Jon topics.
Anyways, I'd say it's less about Modern rap and more that this board started to ****ride any trend that comes along; then stopped discovering and sharing artists with eachother. I'd love to get a real westcoast topic going, personally. The last one I made turned into a debate about Hyphy music being ****, despite the fact that it's been dead for years. He regrets doing it.
This controversial routine on HBO's "Bring The Pain," made Rock a star back in 1996: "There's, like, a civil war going on with black people, and there's two sides. There's black people, and there's -------. And ------- have to go."
Why does he think it got so much attention?
"I think a lot of people were thinking in those terms and hadn't been able to say it. By the way, I've never done that joke again, ever, and I probably never will," says Rock. "'Cause some people that were racist thought they had license to say ------. So, I'm done with that routine."
