Enjoyed the Atlus press release though.
Surely you all have a PS Vita at this point? What? WHAT?! Dont you know Persona 4 Golden is coming soon?!
The Half Off Just About Everything For Just About A Month (HOJAEFJAAM) PSN Sale ends on July 31st.

So ... you liked them then? If you liked FFT, Tactics Ogre is a good choice.
Disgaea 3's story will take you 25-30 hours. The "hundreds of hours" stat is for crazies who love grinding post-game.
In theory, yes, you can get through Disgaea 3 without grinding perhaps in the same way you could play Diablo 3 without grinding. The game was built with grinding elements, if you don't grind, you're not playing the game as it was meant to be played.

... Just wondering if I should pick up Crystal Bearers sometime.

And also probably only appealed to the US Tales of fans, which appear to number around 60-80k based on the sales of the other localized games, outside of Symphonia and Vesperia aberrations. Collage of wispy pastel anime characters on the cover, bonds of friendship on the back, score hovering around 7-8 at major review sites.

Not sure if I'm excited about this. I'd rather that space be used for lesser-known Nintendo characters.
It's not like Game Arts making Brawl got them any characters on the Brawl roster.

I dunno, I like the translated names better.

I want no part of this executive BS. I would rather let the project die then have to insert female cast member into a male personality group (with what that forces to be added into a script).
Well, if that's the problem, cast Helen Mirren.
Or Dakota Fanning.
|C/D Arc Rise Fantasia is a better RPG than FFXIII (7) | Posted on June 13, 2012, 4:47 p.m.|
|I suppose. In the sense that stuff in Arc Rise Fantasia was more intuitive gameplay-wise. I mean, I don't know why filling a Tetris block makes my weapons better but the game spells out what happens if I do it.|
FFXIII, throwing x20 screws into the weapon increases the multiplier enough so that putting in a high value core will increase the weapon's power but you should really do this in endgame when you can properly farm the "right" materials otherwise you're doing it inefficiently. A spreadsheet is recommended.
And then there's the story.
Arc Rise Fantasia is simplistic but FFXIII is almost indecipherable.
Though some people prefer complexity over simplicity. That's understandable.
|What do you think of kickstarters? (19) | Posted on June 13, 2012, 12:30 p.m.|
|I'm not too worried about scams since the good amount of people have trustworthy credentials that they probably wouldn't throw away so easily. Most projects also look well on their way to moving forward.|
The projects that don't have either the developer cred and/or the prototype, they're clearly far less trustworthy. Though the internet catches on reasonably fast.
It's a worthy endeavor though you won't see your donation come into effect for maybe years. Game development takes time after all.
For stuff from dying or unprofitable genres that are difficult to pitch in a business setting, seems like Kickstarter is a good place to go.
As I'm a pennypincher that buys games months after release, I wouldn't pay $15 for the promise of getting an iphone game in the future but I don't begrudge the option to exist.

|Is Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn worth playing? (24) | Posted on June 11, 2012, 1:30 p.m.|
|It closes some plot threads from Path of Radiance, if that interests you at all.|
It also increases the scale of things. The recruitable character count is the highest yet, characters can carry more items, forge stronger gear, there's a third promotion tier, and the scale of the story tries to cover three POVs. For better or worse. Some items were added to make Laguz more usable.
If you liked Path of Radiance, Radiant Dawn is a good followup.
Haha, yeah. Why raise humans when the royals come strong out of the box. It was probably a fail-safe just in case you got RNG screwed. I was attached to my army too so I brought them along to bless stuff. Can't say no to legendary weapons.

Thing is I've never even played Diablo 2. What is 3 missing that 2 had?
They streamlined a whole lot of it and made Diablo III more accessible.
You used to allocate skill points and stat points permanently. Equipment had stat restrictions instead of just level restrictions. You couldn't unsocket gems once placed into an item. Your inventory was smaller and some items took up eight squares. Item durability fell faster. If you died, you'd respawn naked and have to hike back to your dead body (likely still surrounded by the thing that killed you) to re-arm yourself. You had to carry Scrolls of Town Portal and Scrolls of Identity (or ask an NPC) to identify unidentified items (including blue magic items) and these items took up inventory space. There was a stamina bar that depletes when you run.

Though the fun in Xenogears was largely in seeing the twists unveil. Wouldn't have the same impact, even if you bumped up the graphics and made the gameplay more involving.
But yeah, maybe if they fleshed out Disc 2.

|The Zelda series needs a reboot. (34) | Posted on May 21, 2012, 9:17 a.m.|
|I'm alright with Zelda's tool-dungeon questing format as it is now. The bosses are straightforward when you figure out their pattern but bosses were mostly designed to test puzzle solving over hand-eye dexterity to begin with.|
The elements that people cite that Zelda needs to change, ex. voice acting, story, challenge, they don't seem integral to the Zelda experience. There's not much else that does Zelda's tool dungeon adventuring so if Zelda were to change into something else, there's not much to replace it. Depending on what aspect you want to change.

I mean, I guess that could happen if you tried to level with boss abuse and level with all 50ish characters but that's not a typical playthrough number.

1. Meet cute
2. Find things in common
3. Conflict and disagreement

Financially, lol, I don't think so. 20,000 copies? That's a tragedy. What can I say, it's a COD universe we live in.
Ah, what I meant to say was that that was a list of everything released in April 2012 and that Xenoblade managing to outsell all of them besides Prototype 2 wasn't impossible.
Though still unlikely, given all the factors. We'll see May 10th, I suppose.

True. Realistically speaking I wouldn't be surprised if half the sales of Xenoblade came from people who wanted to pick it up because it's "rare" and because GameStop advertised the crap out of it in-store because it was a GameStop Exclusive.
Haha, describes my experience when I picked it up at Gamestop. They had a bunch of those empty display boxes on the Xenoblade cardboard stand on the front but they're all like "you're in luck, this is our last copy!"

|Conception Please Have My Babies (PSP exclusive) coming to the US. (63) | Posted on May 3, 2012, 9:45 a.m.|
Sega has sales of VK2 (and 1) to base off and would feel the market for the game isnt worth justifying the cost of hiring voice actors and translators for a lot of text/voicing
They could just translate the text, and leave the original JP voice acting, ala Shenmue II. In fact, I think VC fans would actually prefer it handled that way.
Honestly, though, IMHO, Sega missed an opportunity to have the second game sell better in the West by releasing it on Wii. There's a lot of PSP RPGs that might've done well in the West had they been handled that way.
Even if they skipped English voice acting, they'd then have to pay royalties to use the Japanese voice acting. There's a lot of costs to bringing a game over. The market just said no.
Releasing it on the Wii would not help it's fortunes. Niche JRPG stuff hasn't set sales on fire for any console for the west, really.
Anyway, regarding this game, they're really sticking with that title? Err.
|I would like your input on the following Wii games. (23) | Posted on May 3, 2012, 9:38 a.m.|
I loved the two main characters. Emil reminded me of myself a lot personally <_<.
Keep in mind, Emil spends the beginning of the game talking mostly about:
1. How much of a coward he is
2. How pathetic he is
3. How he can't do anything
This is extremely off-putting. I can imagine why people wouldn't want to keep going with this kind of main hero.
|I would like your input on the following Wii games. (16) | Posted on May 2, 2012, 6:29 p.m.|
|While I enjoyed Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, there's definitely a lot that could potentially put you off. The two main characters start with grating personalities, the battle system is based on catching monsters but this aspect is not organically applied to the game, and it's clearly Tales of on a budget.|
Despite that, the voiced skits are fun, there's a ton of Symphonia fanservice without rehashing Symphonia's plot points, aerial combat is pretty nifty, and this was Tales of right before Namco Bandai discovered DLC. It's got the battle system, the party interactions, the mini-games, and heart of a Tales of game (so if you don't like the series, this is going to be extra awful to you).
