Developing characters? Vince Gilligan has developed characters over four seasons of outstanding television. It makes a lot of sense that this season is going to be almost strictly action and involving Walt's rise (and possible subsequent fall). I'm sorry but if you are wanting a lot of character development by now, then I think you have lot sight of the original purpose of the show. This season is pretty much all falling action.
We know that Walt isn't physically imposing or "good with guns", but that's not the point. Walt believes he is and believes he is this massive kingpin, Jesse James or Gus Fring type of badass. That's why it's important to show it. Because that's ALL that Walt knows and cares about right now. Being the new Gus Fring.

It's not an 8 episode season. It's a 16 episode season which AMC wanted to split into 2 parts. There is a definite difference.

After that scene in the bedroom and the breakfast scene, I honestly believed Skyler would kill herself at the end of the episode. Obviously not the direction they went, but I don't see any way Skyler doesn't die by the mid-season finale. And then the last 8 will be Hank vs. Walt and Jesse and Walt finally coming to a face-off in some way.
Just my very quick and useless prediction.

Gobraves, how you described Breaking Bad is actually what Mad Men is- there is no filler. Every line, every shot, every scene has implicit meaning. The slow burn isn't slow at all.
Does Mad Men get better after Season 1? Cause like I said, it was obviously beautifully made with great characters, but the plot or "twists" of Season 1 were really weak to me. Don't want to waste my time if it's more of the same pacing and story-wise.

Finally caught up on Season 4 last night and the premiere of Season 5. It is just ridiculous how good this show is. Has there ever been a TV show with less filler episodes and scenes from week to week? It's just non-stop great.
It's so much better than Mad Men. </dynastybait>
Seriously though, I've only seen Season 1 of Mad Men and while it was good, it certainly didn't make every fiber of my body feel entrapped like I feel during a Breaking Bad episode. Now I don't know if Mad Men gets better and more exciting. I hear it does, but Season 1 was super slow at points and just didn't hold my attention that great.
You know how good Breaking Bad is? I had the Season 4 finale ( Gus being killed and looking like the black Two Face) spoiled for me right after I started marathoning it about a week ago. And even with that, I was still so nervous and on the edge of my seat during the last 2-3 episodes. That shouldn't happen but it still did. I've never had a show make me so enthralled while watching it. It's just so ******* superb.

People seem to forget that Memorial Day is for EVERYONE who has died, not just military vets.
Well ****, I stand corrected on Memorial Day. But I stand by my point. People do it strictly because they think it makes them a "good" person. And I'd like to go through one holiday without it being shoved down my throat.
And I think the recent conflicts overseas have been highly exaggerated. It's not like it's World War 2 or Vietnam.
Anyways, but my 4th is going to consist of some golf in this brutal heat. And then hang out at my brother's place for a bit before heading home for a chill night.

I'm gonna say something that will probably be offensive to some of you. But hey, deal with it.
Since when did every single holiday become a military-honoring holiday? When I was younger, the holiday to honor veterans and the military was Veterans Day and part of Memorial Day. People seem to forget that Memorial Day is for EVERYONE who has died, not just military vets.
But now, I can't go a single flipping holiday without seeing a Facebook status or a Tweet that says, "Thank you veterans, this holiday wouldn't be possible without you! #Merica #freedom #imahick". Really? Cause I'm pretty sure the 4th of July has nothing to do with veterans or people who are serving right now. And I'm fairly certain Thanksgiving, Christmas, and ******** Arbor Day would still be around anyways. I even saw quite a few statuses on Labor Day last year praising veterans for allowing that holiday to occur and the US to exist. Huh?
That **** drives me crazy.

That Warriors/Bulls scenario obviously interests me. I really do think the Bulls need to shed either Deng, Noah, or Boozer's contract. Obviously, no one will take Boozer's contract so the Bulls will probably amnesty after next season or in 2. So that means it has to be Deng or Noah. And I think Noah is better to have long term.
But what's interesting to me is that fact it would be for the 7th pick. Neither Barnes, Beal, or MKG will be available at 7. So that leaves the next tier of Waiters, Lamb, and Rivers. Is moving up for that tier worth it? I do kinda like Waiters. And even though Rivers is an insufferable prick, he could have a lengthy, successful NBA career but never be an All-Star. He's too undersized though. And I'm not a huge fan of Lamb. I guess Waiters would be who I hope they'd target there. He's got the only chance to be an All-Star type talent of any of those three guys in my opinion.

Had my third day at my new job today. It was a lot better, I finally figured out what exactly it is I'll be doing with each software program and how I'll go about things. I work in the Business Intelligence Department. There's 8 of us in that department and I'm the GIS Analyst. But one of the BI Analysts is the one who trained me today. She's the one who I'll work with most and has been doing a majority of my work in the period of time before I was hired.
However, it sounds like she wants to do less of the mapping and projection models on new locations and more of the analysis of current store data. Therefore, it looks like once I'm officially trained (I fly to Tulsa for that within a month), they will already be looking to give me quite a bit of responsibility which will be nice but a bit surprising. I guess that's the real world.
Also - I am a bit surprised by the amount of down time and independent time I have. I'm sure the down time is because I haven't been trained on everything yet. However, I'm very surprised by how little I interact with the other 7 in my department. I understand everyone has their own work to do but I only talked to 3 people today in my department and one was because I had my one-on-one "get to know each other" meeting. It seems like most of my interaction will just be with the analyst who trained me. And other than that, I'll only converse a lot with my department during our two weekly meetings. I don't know if other people's job are like this too or not. Or maybe it's only been 3 days and I'm new so there haven't been many opportunities for us to interact yet much.

Just looked at a list of all the winners. Okay, I think she's Top 5. I did miss a few seasons my first few years of college so I don't feel I could judge those adequately (Micronesia, Gabon, Nicaragua, and Heroes vs. Villains).
Also, it's tough to judge the early season winners vs later seasons. The game has changed a ton with things like hidden immunity idols, different number of tribes at the start of the game, or different twists in the format. For example, Richard Hatch and Ethan were clear cut great winners. However, their opposition seems so very weak or at least not as game-savvy. But then again, the opposition of the last few seasons has been sheep-like. Makes it lot tougher to compare winners when considering their competitors skill level.

Yeah, everyone talking about buying a house, I know I theoretically could right now. I'm just not ready yet for the physical upkeep and maintenance of it. Plus, what I could afford right now is not something that I would particularly want for the future. And the money I actually do have right now (before I start my new job) would not be nearly enough for a down payment and to feel comfortable for the immediate future.

So I don't know if everyone saw or not, but I got hired for a full-time position in West Des Moines so I'll be moving there in a couple of weeks. I am currently on the hunt for apartments, and it's proving to be much more difficult than I expected. It's not tough to find many, it's just tough to figure out how much I want to pay.
Being out of college now and the fact that I will actually have money means that I can get something that I actually WANT and like, instead of something I can just afford. Which is nice, except I just keep looking and looking at more and more different places.
So basically, what is everyone's % of monthly income that they spend on rent/mortgage? And/or how much do you pay? Would 38% of my monthly income towards rent be a little too much? Because that's what I'm considering right now.
There's different recommendations out there online ranging from 25% to 40% with different reasoning behind each. Not sure what number is the most recognized by actual people though.
And I've gone through and created a little budget spreadsheet in Excel of different expenses as well like cable, Internet, utilities, groceries, gas, dining out, and things like that. And I still have a good amount of money left over to put into savings, unexpected costs, and hopefully a future car payment. I guess I'm just possibly over-analyzing how much to spend on everything as I actually have money. I don't want to over-extend myself just on rent.

So about six pages back, I mentioned how I had an interview with Kum and Go to be their GIS Analyst in the Business Intelligence department there in West Des Moines.
So that interview was last Monday and they called me back later in the week last week for a second interview. I didn't want to jinx anything so I didn't bring it up here, but that second interview was yesterday.
I was scheduled to meet with one of the interviewers who talked to me previously and then he would take me up to talk to the CFO. It was weird because I thought it was the final interview in the process. However, when I got there I met with the two people I interviewed with previously and they sat me down, didn't ask any questions, and just said, "So do you have any questions for us?" I thought that was a little weird, so I just asked how the process was working and if I would need to wait for other candidates to interview to find out about the position, and they said, "Well, you're the only one we called back in to talk to again." So, that kind of floored me and I was a bit taken aback.
After that, I just talked to them for a few more minutes and asked a couple more questions and then they took me up to meet with the CFO. I thought I might get grilled a little harder here, but it was pretty casual. He talked to me just about where I grew up, my schooling, why I chose my major, and what I like about the company - things like that. We talked about Iowa State for a good 5-10 minutes because he has season tickets for football and basketball and his family is a major donor. And then that was it. He walked me out and didn't even say anything about keeping in touch. I thought that was weird at first, but he's the CFO so I figured that's not really his position anyways.
Therefore, I basically drove back to Omaha yesterday kind of thinking the position was mine, but I wasn't entirely sure and didn't want to jinx anything.
Well, they called me back today and I was offered the position. It's such a weird feeling, knowing that I have an actual career. I don't officially graduate until tomorrow but I know I have a job in the real world. It's exciting, but overwhelming too. I start May 21st, so I have a little over two weeks to find a place in Des Moines, move out of Omaha, and get settled in there. I'm pumped though and just ecstatic I found something.
Plus, the pay is what is most shocking to me. For starting out with this salary, I'm gonna have no idea what to do with myself.
But yeah, that entire post was one gigantic humblebrag, but I'm pretty pumped!
