|i am enjoying tales of graces. i did not play vesperia so i cannot comment on that.|
the battle system is a ton of fun and there is a ton content. the story doesn't really do much for me (kids saving the world zzzz), the characters are cringe worthy at times (they interact well but some scenes make you embarrassed to play the game), and there are some issues with the bosses. you'll cruise along killing stuff in one hit then hit a boss that can take you out in 30 seconds, forcing you to grind an area of enemies that can take five to ten seconds for you to beat. the ai also has some issues with dodging enemy attacks and will eat one hit KO spells without so much as a dodge or block attempt.
i can't really say a whole lot since i'm not done or reviewing it (kirsten is) but i will say that it may be my favorite jrpg of the generation. granted that's like winning the short bus drag race on the ps3 and i may be saying that having gotten it and hyperdimension neptunia 2 at the same time.

I'd give McCourty another chance
What do you mean "give him another chance"
He spent all of last season either out or coming back off of injury. Forget "another chance", he our default number 1 corner until proven otherwise
devin mccourty is a godawful press corner. i think we can all agree here. he seemed to come back around and become a bit mediocre when the team went back to zone but let's be honest here: he stunk for the majority of last year. he was one of the corners in league history. it almost seemed to be at times that throwing in his direction was an instant 15-20 yard gain for opposing offenses.
maybe mccourty with a full offseason and with health will turn back into being an above average corner. unfortunately i think he is a bit of a liability out there and will continue to be even if the pats went to zone full time. i think his more natural position and inevitable future is as a strong safety. because of that i think they should get the best corner who is available in webb who would also be a massive upgrade in his own right. then mccourty could slide into the SS position and that would improve the team in two spots.

|don't need a receiver and to be honest pass rush isn't a really big deal unless we fail to retain both carter and anderson. granted they could turn into pumpkins again but i am fine with the pass rush as it currently is with one of those guys back in the fold (ideally both, and healthy, but who knows).|
secondary was the biggest weakness and requires the most attention. i think by adding webb and moving mccourty to safety that the team could benefit far more than drafting some second round corner from new mexico or something and having another first that will be traded next year.

where and how do you measure better hands when wallace caught 15% more of the balls thrown his way? don't say tebow either, lloyd got to duck that whole experience.
Do you not see the flaws in using that stat in that way? The stat is useless for comparative purposes because WRs are used in very different ways from one another. I could literally have Calvin Johnson as my WR, but if I am the one throwing the ball, his catch rate is going to be putrid since I'll be missing him by 15 feet. Even within the same offense, the catch rate for a five yard slant/post/curl WR is going to be different than an equally capable WR who is running 30 yard go routes and deep posts.
i know it's a flawed metric for the sake of this argument but i don't see any way to accurately measure who has the best hands in the league. chad jackson caught everything from a machine and we saw how that turned out.
i just don't think that lloyd has significantly better hands and don't see any numbers that point in that direction.
but that whole thing is over and done with now. i see where iodine is coming from and i never have said that lloyd isn't a good pickup. i just think that wallace is better at just about everything except making adjustments on the fly (because why would he, he can just blow by most defensive backs).
e: let's not act as though lloyd had nothing but crappy qbs last year. he mostly had bradford and orton.

|Brandon Lloyd to the Pats. (30) | Posted on March 18, 2012, 11:08 a.m.|
|iodine: alright, that makes sense then. earlier it seemed like you were just throwing out stuff that joe buck would say. i can agree there that lloyd does those things but i think that is also because he doesn't have any "exceptional" tool. wallace is five years younger and as such i wouldn't have minded the longer commitment and cash necessary. it's likely that as wallace ages and gets to lloyd's age that he may need to adjust and become more like him. we'll agree to disagree, i think wallace could be even more successful with the pats, but lloyd's cost makes him the more attractive and better option for a team that has to spend some cash to a lot of major players (welker and soon gronk/hernandez just to name three off the top of my head).|
i will admit that dowling has crossed my mind but honestly relying on him is a stretch. dude hasn't been healthy in college and likely won't ever put together a full season. arrington is alright and i don't mind him but i truly think that webb is legit and won't crater like mccourty did. this goes back a bit to what acr said about brady. webb can come in right now and be the #1 corner through the rest of brady's career and beyond. he's infinitely superior to any player we'd get at 31 (since the team has to give up their own pick i believe for a RFA so the 17th pick would be safe). i don't know what he would be looking at contract wise but i think he'd be worth every single penny.
by having him, we would have flexibility with mccourty. we could go back to the defensive scheme he excelled at or move him to what may be his future home as a safety. that would kill two birds with one stone since i think mccourty is good enough to have a role with this team. i don't think getting landry or nelson is the answer at S.
i don't think the pats will pick at 17 even if they keep the 31, i think that pick is going to be a second and a first next year.
|Brandon Lloyd to the Pats. (25) | Posted on March 18, 2012, 10:23 a.m.|
|while i guess we're all here in the pats zone, what does everyone think of the idea of giving up the 31 to get lardarius webb? i've been posting and running around to all sorts of forums since the possibility first opened up but i don't think i have seen anyone here comment on it. now that it's obvious wallace is out of the picture what do you think of spending the 31 and some big cash on webb?|
|Brandon Lloyd to the Pats. (24) | Posted on March 18, 2012, 10:22 a.m.|
|where and how do you measure better hands when wallace caught 15% more of the balls thrown his way? don't say tebow either, lloyd got to duck that whole experience. |
also, again, where do you get this idea that lloyd has "far superior football iq"? can you please point me in the direction of something showing me that mike wallace could not grasp a new offense?
i have no idea about the route running thing but the last time the patriots got a a guy who was a really great route runner and crafty he turned out to catch 15 passes.
again, it's not a bad signing. the cost makes easily makes this the most appealing option that was on the board. it helps that mcdaniels is also entrenched in new england. but please let's not act as though getting mike wallace, the league's best deep threat, wouldn't have been a bigger impact (at a significantly higher cost). again, though, lloyd had exactly one season of over 1000 yards (though he got 966 last year) so he we can't anoint him as the greatest thing since sliced bread.
also what is this crap about better body control? next you'll tell me that lloyd just has these intangibles and is a proven winner.
but again, i am happy with the signing. i am even happier with the cost. i think lloyd can fit in well and if the pats get webb with the 31st pick i will be ecstatic with the offseason. i just preferred wallace and think he would have been the more productive player in a vacuum.
e: at wyld, that's fair but i would like to see something somewhere that tells me that brandon lloyd has better hands than mike wallace. maybe i'm wrong, it wouldn't be the first time. it's just that everything i have looked at tells me that wallace catches more balls and produces more. i don't care what a guy does with a machine flinging balls at him.
|Brandon Lloyd to the Pats. (21) | Posted on March 18, 2012, 9:46 a.m.|
|that's a fine assessment of things. i can agree that investing a significant amount of the cap to wallace (as well as hammering out a welker extension) would have made things a bit tough. i just wanted to point out that a lot of what iodine was saying was garbage.|
personally it has been my preference all along if the pats were to get a RFA that it be lardarius webb. i hope that happens but i know it likely won't.

|for what it's worth if i were cruz i would sure as hell hold out to make sure the giants pay me. he's getting what, the minimum? after seeing guys like garcon and desean jackson get monster contracts i would think my services as one of the top three/five WRs last year deserves a substantial raise. last thing he needs is to tear an acl and never have gotten his payday.|
in fact, you could say the same about nicks, too. he's still on his rookie contract isn't he? both guys could very well hold out and have good cases for doing so.
(yes i know cruz could be a one year wonder [though i doubt he is] and that's why it makes even more sense for him to hold out)

|wallace's catch rate was 63% and lloyd's was 48. i don't get this "better hands" argument at all.|
wallace is the far superior player in just about every regard. i'll give you that lloyd may be the better fit seeing as he knows and has played his best under mcdaniels but let's not ignore facts here. it's not as though brandon lloyd is the posterboy for consistent excellence.
i also keep seeing this dumb football iq crap everywhere. i mean i get it, brandon lloyd is smarter than your average wide receiver. chad johnson, from media reporters, was as dumb as a brick (who knows how true that is). i don't see anything anywhere that says mike wallace is dumb and just runs really fast in a straight line and could not grasp the complexities of another offense.
|Brandon Lloyd to the Pats. (17) | Posted on March 18, 2012, 7:51 a.m.|

also, branch only wants to play for the pats and will likely get near the minimum. Johnson will restructured or cut though he wants to come back for a chance at a ring. Maybe he'd fit better with McDaniels tha obrien.
though they won't do it I hope they go and get Webb from Baltimore with the 31st pick. I know it'll end up as a 2 and 1 next year though
