|Thoughts on Chicago (2002)? (8) | Posted on June 30, 2012, 4:34 p.m.|
|I love it. The music is terrific and it's got a great cast delivering them (John C. Reilly!!!), plus the whole musical-numbers-in-Roxie's-head idea was a clever way to adapt it. Stylish and fun all the way. A-|
It's a good movie but it must have been a really bad year for movies for this to have won Best Picture.
2002 was a pretty weak year; there were a few standout films, but not as deep a year of masterpieces as say 2007.
|Rate: Iron Man 1 (10) | Posted on June 30, 2012, 4:31 p.m.|
|Grade: B+, just as fun hearing the characters riff and talk as it is when Stark suits up. Bridges is great, Paltrow hasn't been so charming and lively since Shakespeare in Love, and RDJ is a perfect fit as Tony; it's going to be hard to imagine an Iron Man without him.|

|Thats why I prefer Sonic & Sega ASR; while trying to keep players in the mix is understandable, I like Sonic's item balance and tilt to skill where if youre good enough to get a big lead, you can keep it. Plus Im not sure you need that kind of rubberbanding; most of the people I know who play Mario Kart tend to be pretty good, even casuals.|

|Yeah, I've hurt my hand smashing onto desks when in gamerage mode (it's preferable to destroying controllers). I play a ton of racers but don't blink during races (I'll even sneeze with my eyes open) and it will make my eyes dry up like mad. And I've had blistered thumbs from stuff like Fight Night or SSX.|

Wrong, sir! Wrong! "Fax mentis, incendium gloria cultum," et cetera, et cetera... Memo bis punitor delicatum! It's all there! Black and white, clear as crystal! You STOLE Fizzy-Lifting Drinks! |Rate: Spider-Man (9) | Posted on June 28, 2012, 12:18 p.m.|
|Grade: B, fun and likable with a good cast, but the ambitious visuals for the time can't quite do the job at times, the movie goes a bit too cornball at others (WE'LL MEET AGAIN, SPIDERMAAAAAN), and they make Peter a bit too passive with Mary Jane for my liking. I like it, but the sequel blows it out of the water.|
PS: How'd he make the costume?

|Rate: Batman (1989) (2) | Posted on June 26, 2012, 10:03 p.m.|
|Grade: B. Batman/Bruce Wayne takes such a back seat in this movie that it feels like a Joker POV comic book than anything, and Kim Basinger really really sucks in this movie, but Jack Nicholson is so damn entertaining and the art direction and soundtrack is so phenomenal that I can forgive its multiple flaws.|
|Rate: Judge Dredd (1) | Posted on June 22, 2012, 4:42 p.m.|

|rate: The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2) | Posted on June 21, 2012, 10:58 p.m.|
|Grade: D, hole-filled story, lame FX, lamer characters, unexciting action, crosses the threshold of stupidity that makes a film go from enjoyable to dumb. It's a film so bad it made Sean Connery retire and I don't blame him.|
|Batman: "I won't kill you. But I don't have to save you." (BB and TDK spoilers) (12) | Posted on June 21, 2012, 10:56 p.m.|
|But it wasn't a cold-blooded execution, like Bruce wanted to avoid. It's like that crappy J-Lo movie said, "Self-defense is not murder" (the law would have something to say about that, but never mind). Even with Ras in the end, that was a situation that Ras put himself in, not Bruce outright killing a man by force.|
|Question regarding Michael Bay's Transformers series. (3) | Posted on June 21, 2012, 10:54 p.m.|
|Absolutely. The reason I really dislike the sequels is that they felt like a lowbrow Michael Bay comedy with some robots thrown in the final 30 minutes instead of being, you know, A TRANSFORMERS FILM! We don;t need that many superfluous, unfunny, unlikable human characters in this movie, I don't need T&A and weed jokes in a TF film, and a TF should not have a longer runtime than Inception (TF2 remains the only film where I've fallen asleep in the theater). I still like the first film because it nicely captures the A Boy and His Transformers feel (that was Spielberg's idea, btw) that felt at home with what a TF film should be going this route, but Bay indulged too much of his 14-year-old fantasies afterwards at the detriment of the robots and the fun.|

|Absolutely. I really like LOTR and ROTK, but for that to win BP over Lost in Translation was a bad decision, but then again, that night was just the Academy circle-j****** the trilogy.|
Heck, with Master and Commander being out the same year, I'm not even sure ROTK was even the best adventure that year.
