|I want to be like Mike Spencer Bown, the guy who has traveled to 190+ countries (1) | Posted on Nov. 10, 2013, 4:54 p.m.|
- He started his journey at age 21, traveled around the world for 23 years, and is now 44 years old and resting at home in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
- He is not even that rich. For many of the places he's been, he had to hitchhike his way through the country.
- He actually lives extensively in those countries and immerses himself in them, rather than just flying there by plane, staying at a hotel in a major city for a few days, and then leaving.
- He has even been to the most unvisitable places on Earth, such as Somalia and North Korea.
- One of his last stops was Israel because a lot of Middle Eastern countries make it hard for people to get in if they're Israeli citizens or if they have stamps from Israel on their visas.
- His last stop was Ireland, which he chose because it's safe and friendly, and so that he could enjoy Guinness there.
- He has been arrested on his travels before. Almost impossible not to if you're going to visit every country in the world where their laws may vary drastically.
- He has celebrated at least one birthday on every continent.

|It never occurred to me that Disappearance was the series finale for the anime. What happened to the rest? The show was well-received, and they were going so well too. They have all these light novels to adapt. What about Rampage, Wavering, Intrigues, Indignation, Dissociation, and Surprise? Wikipedia doesn't mention anything about it, only that there hasn't been anything new since Disappearance. Is it because Aya Hirano got involved in that sex scandal in 2011, and they had to cancel the entire show because of that even though it had nothing to do with production and there's nobody else in the world that can do as good of a job as her?|
|Just curious, but couldn't the U.S. drop bombs on cities to insta-win any war? (1) | Posted on Nov. 10, 2013, 9:20 a.m.|
|Today, the argument is that it would be too harmful and destructive and cost too many civilian lives. It's simply not worth losing that many civilian lives; it's okay if they're collateral damage, but not okay if they're the sole intended target of the attack. That's why during the War on Terror, the U.S. couldn't just drop bombs all over Afghanistan and Iraq to wipe out all the terrorists. Too many innocent civilian lives would be lost in the process.|
But what about the hundreds of thousands of lives that were lost in the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki which, I might add, were completely intentional and targeted to kill those civilians? What about the carpet bombings on Cambodia that left it what is still one of the world's poorest countries today? What about spreading Agent Orange all over Vietnam? Why is it okay for the United States to kill thousands of innocent civilians ruthlessly, but other times it's not okay because too many people would get hurt? Why does the United States even criticize Syria for it when the United States has been much worse in the past?

|What do you think is the most accurately representative city of the U.S.? (1) | Posted on Nov. 10, 2013, 5:36 a.m.|
|I'm wondering what the city is that embodies the American spirit the best. The city that represents America the best to foreigners. It can't be something that has too much of an individual identity, and it can't be regionally distinct. It can't be a city that's best known for something, so Las Vegas is obviously ruled out. It has to be a city that's quite similar to other large cities in the United States. New York City and Los Angeles are ruled out because they're too distinct, and they're too one-of-a-kind to accurately represent the entirety of the country.|
I was thinking something like Indianapolis, Indiana. Or maybe Des Moines, Iowa. It would probably be somewhere in the Midwest, the Heartland where there's no regional accent. Those two cities are fairly big, but they're not particularly known for anything, at least not in comparison to NYC and LA. They're about as generic as can be. I'm looking for the most generic city in the United States. A city that foreigners can visit and realistically expect the rest of the country to be pretty similar.

This whole thing went by way too fast for me to follow; yeah, I'm slow, but could anybody please break this sequence down for me piece-by-piece so I can understand what the hell went on here? Thanks.

|Boy in Kansas gets suspended from school for carrying a purse to school (1) | Posted on Nov. 9, 2013, 6:12 a.m.|
|Why do we bother having red states?|
GARNETT, Kansas (KCTV) - A 13-year-old Kansas eighth-grader says he was suspended from school on Wednesday because he refused to take off his Vera Bradley purse.
At issue is the colorful Vera Bradley purse which Skylar Davis, an 8th grader at Anderson County Junior/Senior High School, insists on wearing.
"It expresses myself, and I think everyone else can wear it, so I can wear it as well."
But a member of the faculty felt differently.
Skylar found that out after he say he was summoned to assistant Principal Don Hillard's office.
"I was told to go put it up, and I went to the office, and they told me that I had to. I refused to take it off and they suspended me."
The school then called Skylar's mom.
"I was a little furious so I called the school just to reverify the story, and it was that he refused to take off his Vera Bradley bag and nothing more to it," said Leslie Willis, Skylar's mother.
Willis scanned the student handbook which she says makes no mention of bags and purses. She questions the decision to suspend her son and also the timing.
"Skylar has been going to school since August every morning with that same Vera Bradley bag on, has not taken it off. What is the problem today?"
KCTV 5 called the school for comment and left messages on assistant Principal Hillard's office and cell phone.
KCTV 5 also went to his house and left a message there.
Meanwhile, Skylar's family and friends are supporting his decision to carry his purse, especially since, according to them, girls get to carry their purses on campus.
"Yeah, I mean I've seen girls wear shorter shorts you know than that. Why don't they get kicked out? He gets kicked out for a purse. That doesn't make sense. It's not right," said Dakota Haight, Skylar's brother.
"I don't think everyone should be treated differently. Everyone should have the same privileges."
Willis said she was told that the suspension wouldn't be lifted until Skylar stops wearing the purse, which he says he won't do.

Why did they do that? Whose idea was it to make over half the second season into nothing but a pointless, repetitive cycle of the same thing played over and over again? Did they not foresee the backlash they would receive? Or did they foresee it and just not care because they thought it would be funny anyway?|

|Girl kills herself because she missed her daddy and wanted to see him again (1) | Posted on Nov. 5, 2013, 4:13 p.m.|
A schoolgirl has killed herself because she was desperate to be reunited with her dead father in heaven.
Maria Kislo, 12, was discovered hanging in her room by her mother Monika, 35, when she went to read her a bedtime story.
Next to the tragic youngster's body was a short note saying: 'Dear Mum. Please don't be sad. I just miss daddy so much, I want to see him again.'
Her doting father Arek died suddenly in 2009 after a massive heart attack.
Distraught Ms Kislo, 35, from Leszno, Poland, said: 'Five years ago I lost my husband Arek, this year my daughter. I don’t know if I can go on, and I wouldn't if it was not for my son,' she said.
'She didn't seem unhappy. She didn't have problems at school and she seemed a happy little girl.
'I had no idea she missed her father so much, she never really spoke about it,' she added.
She called her son Michal, 13, who cut the body down.
But it was too late to save the schoolgirl who died at the scene.
Pictures have emerged of a smiling Maria, taken four years ago, spending time with her beloved father.
The happy looking child had been taken horse riding four years ago by her father shortly before he died.
Now isn't this kind of religion's fault? Because this girl believed she could be reunited with her father in death, she took her own life? Who's really to blame here?

|I learned that sickness killed the Native Americans before the Europeans could (1) | Posted on Nov. 2, 2013, 8:21 p.m.|
|How I learned it is that the plague, smallpox, etc. spread westward after the white people came to North America far faster than the settlers themselves actually physically moved. That's why the Native Americans mostly died before the white people could reach them, and the white people assumed that the continent had always been large and empty when in fact it was rather densely populated before the diseases killed off the original inhabitants. This doesn't make sense to me for two reasons:|
1. How is it possible for a disease to move faster/farther than the carrier? I've never heard of diseases traveling by air for miles. Wouldn't the white people have to come into close contact with the Native Americans before the Natives could die out?
2. If the white people had already built up an immunity/resistance to the diseases, why would they be carrying it with them? If the whites had the diseases, they would have died off from them. If they didn't have them, how could they transmit them to the natives if they didn't have them? I didn't know diseases could automatically be transferred by people who don't have them.
Yeah, I'm a 23-year-old college graduate and basic American history is a puzzle to me. :/

My bladder seems to fill so quickly that I swear I can even feel as it fills up. To try to reduce it, I purposely drink nothing at all throughout the day except during meals, and still it seems to do nothing. |What's the worst you can do to someone beside putting them in a N Korean prison? (1) | Posted on Oct. 20, 2013, 11:20 a.m.|
|Seriously, I can't think of anything. Getting sent to a North Korean prison is seriously the worst thing that can happen to a person. It's hell on earth. If I were sent to one, I'd immediately try to figure out how I could commit suicide as quickly as I could.|
- People there are slaves who are kept there for the rest of their lives.
- They get sent there by committing political crimes. Since they don't go through trials, they are often innocent and all it takes is for someone to accuse you to be sent to one.
- You don't just go alone; your entire family goes with you. Any children born there also stay there, so there are often three generations with the original person being accused of war crimes during the Korean War.
- They barely get fed enough food to survive. Deaths from starvation and disease are all too common.
- Executions are also very frequent and unwarranted. Guilty people get executed there all the time.
- Women are routinely raped by the prison guards. The unwanted babies are eliminated by starving the women, forced abortions, etc.
And that's barely scratching the surface. People are regularly murdered, raped, starved, enslaved, tortured, separated from their families, deprived of basic human rights and liberty there. That, to me, sounds like the worst thing you can do to a person. It's like a combination of all the really bad things humans can do, but ten times worse. I'm surprised no one has done anything about this yet.
