|Diablo III new patch nerfs gear bought with real money. (2) | Posted on June 20, 2012, 9:04 p.m.|
|However, as far as Blizzard sees it, the company had announced upcoming changes to attack speed, posting in forums and in patch notes and blog posts, including a Patch 1.0.3 Design Preview from Senior Technical Game Designer Wyatt Cheng, where he explains:|
Were fixing a number of bugs with Attack Speed, mainly related to the stat not working on some items, but weve also decided we need to reduce the effectiveness of Increased Attack Speed overall. Many players have commented that Increased Attack Speed is such a dominant stat they feel its required. While we dont have an issue with there being important stats, Increased Attack Speed in particular has secondary effects on mobility in combat, resource generation and resource consumption. We want there to be options and considerations for how you gear up, and one uber trump-everything stat can really work against choice and options.
The Attack Speed nerf isn't one that'll win Blizzard any fans - many of whom are on the fence over Diablo III following recent gameplay changes and the loss of experience. That said, it was one that had been documented prior to the patch release, and - importantly - prior to the Real Money Auction House opening, meaning Tarnished should have been aware of it (particularly before dropping such a large amount of cash on a virtual item).
At the end of the day, Blizzard still owns Diablo III and all the virtual items contained in the game, regardless of how they are acquired. The company retains the rights to edit, modify, replace or remove any in-game item, and each player has agreed to these terms.
However: When making a significant change to a potentially game-breaking element, it looks like Blizzard may not be going as far as it could in order to make sure everybody is aware of what's going on. Posting patch notes and previews on a website and in a forum is one thing, and may reach the majority of players, but there are still plenty who only experience the game through the online client. Perhaps Tarnished's experience will prompt changes in the way changes are announced - and one good thing will come out of his unfortunate affair.
|Diablo III new patch nerfs gear bought with real money. (1) | Posted on June 20, 2012, 9:03 p.m.|
|This is pretty bad, I can see lawsuits coming out of this. |
The teething problems continue for Diablo III following the rocky launch of the game's Real Money Auction House earlier this month. It seems that some people have sunk quite a bit of their hard-earned cash into the game, only to find Blizzard has turned around and modified the purchased items.

Tarnished (who also holds a level 85 Orc Warrior in WoW), explains that due to work commitments, he plays Diablo III primarily as a solo diversion. He spends long hours at his day job and claims he doesn't have the time to grind and earn in-game gold in order to buy the best gear. When the Real Money Auction House was launched, Tarnished quickly spent "around $1000" to pick up the items that he felt would give him "a shot" at taking down Inferno-level Diablo all by himself.
...unfortunately for him, Blizzard has "intentionally and significantly decreased" the value of the items that Tarnished paid real money for.
In fact, I no longer have the same item that I paid real money for. I have a fraction of it.
As far as Tarnished sees it - thanks to the recent 1.0.3 patch, his character's Diablo III DPS has dropped from "around 65k" to "around 45k", which is pretty significant.

|The best PC discrete headphones on the market are the Razer Tiamat Elite 7.1. As for Sennheiser's, they are great for music and clear sound, but they typically aren't as accurate for competitive gaming. The Astro's are significantly better for accuracy for enemy positioning. The problem with the Razers is that they are hard to find for ESRP since they were made in limited production and still haven't restocked at most stores.|
|Headphone users...i have some good and bad news. (41) | Posted on June 20, 2012, 8:01 p.m.|
|I love how ignorant many are responding to good headphones. I will help explain to those who think this is a waste of money. Do studios use cheap equipment to record music, is an iPod or iPad made with cheap parts though they are only used for entertainment? This is the point of quality headphones, if you have cheap ones that mean you are not getting the full benefit of the 5.1 or 7.1 lossless recording that the music was created for. Also, I laugh at those who say they wouldn't spend the money, yet all the top players on shooter boards have $150 + headphones. Why you ask, because they can hear more than the $20 pair. Like the movie Hussle and Flow said, "if you want quality, you got to pay for that".|

|Aliens: Colonial Marines Multiplayer Preview. (3) | Posted on June 18, 2012, 5:53 p.m.|
|Predator's are hard to implement, they have so many abilities that current gaming hasn't figured out how to work correctly. One of the major problems with programming Predators is the fact they live above in the trees or high places. Not just for surveillance like Hitman games, but actual combat by moving quickly from high positions. Predators are also really over powering, and so far games really can't incorporate that into current gen gameplay.|
|Aliens: Colonial Marines Multiplayer Preview. (1) | Posted on June 18, 2012, 5:21 p.m.|
|This game sound better everytime I hear about it, but after the AVP fiasco I don't want to get my hopes up too soon. |
You have several loadouts to choose from as a colonial marine, giving you a selection of classic aliens weapons, including the M41A pulse rifle (yes), Corporal Hicks' Itchaca M37 12-gauge shotgun (for close encounters), a double-barrelled combat shotgun and others, with a standard issue pistol as your secondary weapon. You can also acquire weapons out in the field, including the M56 smart gun, which packs the same kind of punch it does in the movie, with a scope that tracks your targets.
Teamwork is vital to survival during a multiplayer match in Colonial Marines, as we quickly find out during our hands-on. Xenomorphs can ambush you from almost anywhere, whether it be vents or the ceiling, so sticking together is a far preferable strategy compared to going lone wolf. Chances are you won't last all too long on your own anyway, even if you manage to mow down several aliens in one gung-ho rampage. You're still likely to be pounced upon with a flanking pincer movement, an unexpected drop from the ceiling or a leaping, drooling death from the shadows.
In essence, playing a round of Aliens: Colonial Marines multiplayer is like taking part in a sort of 'what if?' scenario that never made it to the movie screen, with a dirty great nest of Xenomorph eggs to tread carefully around, an eye-catching exterior zone of Hadley's Hope to draw out the aliens into a more open area, and various interior storage rooms and hangars where you can your team can mount a brave last stand against the opposing team as they lash or charge at you.
Wait a second. Charge? Yes, thanks to Gearbox being given the blessing of 20th Century Fox and the input of concept artist and movie designer Syd Mead, there are new alien breeds to face in Colonial Marines, including the huge Crusher we last saw during our hands-off look at the game during Gamescom last year. In multiplayer, he's a playable Xenomorph and he can ram you into a wall if you get on the wrong end of his big crushing head. No doubt there'll be a few more breeds to try out in multiplayer, beyond the classic Xenomorph we all know and love.
Playing as a marine, it's heartening to find that each weapon feels suitably weighty and lethal. Having shot down several aliens using it (counting towards one of the XP boosting weapon challenges, no less), we now fully understand why Hicks kept that 12-gauge on him and realise why you should only ever fire a pulse rifle in short, controlled bursts. Blast a Xenomorph in the face with either weapon a couple of times and it won't be doing any more shrieking, drooling or face-chomping. Just look out for that nasty corrosive blood, won't you?
Classic Team Deathmatch with a Xenomorph twist, Aliens: Colonial Marines' multiplayer is intense stuff, while the Last Hope map is an impeccably designed location with small corridors, foreboding caves and as we've already mentioned in passing, exemplary lighting. The tension the game also manages to ratchet up while you're holding up your weapon as you consult your beeping motion tracker is a faithful and brilliant touch right out of the classic movie too, and the overall attention to detail in replicating the recognisable weapons, items and creatures is superb. Keeping an eye on the tracker is an integral part of the Aliens universe, and having it mapped to a button that leaves you momentarily vulnerable as red dots move inexorably closer and closer makes you feel as close to being a colonial marine as you'd ever want to be.
